Island House Hotel provides cozy historic charm, gorgeous waterfront views, and an ideal location close to downtown Mackinac Island. This family-operated estate is a Historic Hotels of America award winner, honored state landmark, and the only hotel within Mackinac Island State Park boundaries.

Project Overview
When the LaLa team met with the lovely Michiganders over at Island House Hotel, we clicked instantly. The Marketing Director for Island House Hotel was such a joy to work with, this helped bring passion to the project! Our goal for this project was to do a complete redesign & development of the existing website. They wanted a light and airy new website to match their newly renovated hotel all while drawing design inspiration from their established brand.
Project Details
The overarching goal of the website was to easily share helpful information about the hotel and Mackinac Island with their guests. We started by creating an easy-to-use custom website navigation and worked with them on content strategy.
Background Video
Right off the bat, they requested the use of a background video on the home page, which was easy to provide as it comes standard with LaLa Theme 4. This brought their Home Page to life while giving their users a taste of what a Mackinac Island getaway has to offer.
Custom Blocks
This client was looking to spark their guest’s imagination with the hotel amenities and Mackinac Island charm. We built them a custom inspiration block to showcase all the possibilities and a custom image callout block to highlight the splendor of Mackinac Island. Rooms Custom Post Type
As a historic landmark and freshly renovated hotel, this client wanted the ability to show off all their fantastic room options. With the hotel room custom post type, guests can learn all about each room type and filter them down to find the perfect match. Packages Custom Post Type
Island House Hotel has an array of vacation packages to offer guests throughout the season. We built them a custom post type for packages. It has start and end dates woven in, so the packages can be set to turn on or off automatically as important content management dates are reached. This automation helps them keep the website fresh, leaving them free to focus on their guests. The packages also integrate with the room’s custom post type to display as teaser options. History Plugin
With a classic Victorian structure and a unique origin story, the Island House Hotel has an interesting history. To showcase the full timeline of Mackinac Island’s oldest hotel, we created a History Plugin that takes website users through time. This was a fun and unique project to design and develop.
